Fundraiser for Kuya Jay & Ate Lei–migrant Filipino caregivers in San Francisco currently seeking justice from wage theft & exploitation
Description:
Come through for a lively celebration of cultural resistance as Diwa & Diwata share the stage for the very first time!
These bands of activists & artists weave movement music from the early 2000s SF-based group Diskarte Namin, original songs from Excelsior born & raised cultural worker Amihan, and ballads of revolution from the Philippines–all to bridge our connected histories & struggles through collective performance, song & chant.
100% of ticket funds will be donated directly to Kuya Jay & Ate Lei who are caregivers demanding justice for the wage theft & other exploitation faced under their former employers. Their fight is a part of a larger campaign & demand for Justice for Filipino Caregivers. Come out to learn more about their story & to support Filipino migrant workers locally here in San Francisco.
Support the artists:
Diwata is a collective of queer and femme cultural workers & organizers with Anakbayan City College of SF, Filipino Student Association CCSF & Gabriela Excelsior. Born & raised in San Francisco, their art is a love letter that expresses our connected struggles and resistance—from the concrete jungles of the Bay to the countryside of the Philippines.
Diwa is a cultural group of activists & instrumentalists whose work spans all over the Bay Area. Using their live performances to support grassroots fundraisers & campaigns, Diwa’s music amplifies the calls of the Filipino people fighting for national democracy in the Philippines and all other peoples fighting for freedom in their homelands.
This project is being supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
