**THANKS
TO EVERYONE**:
You Helped Save Bindlestiff!!
A couple months ago, we put the call out to our community when we
were faced with an $11,500 rental debt with the City of San Francisco.
In the true spirit of Bindlestiff, folks from literally all over
the map rallied to put together an amazing string of benefit performances
to make sure that we would "Never Give Up" in our ongoing
struggle to preserve the culture and art that has kept us going
for so many years. We had improvisational comedy from the Los Angeles
based "Room to Improv." We had book launchings for Jessica
Hagedorn's "Dream Jungle" and the history making collection
of writing by filipinas, "Going Home to a Landscape."
The always amazing Gonzalez brothers, Ogie and Jesse, put together
a number of events ranging from their benefit at Cafe Du Nord to
the Last Jam @ Bindlestiff this past Saturday (Dec. 6th). Groups
down @ Stanford University, across the Bay @ UC Berkeley, and all
the way out in UC Davis came through with support for us as well.
We want to thank all the artists, old and new, and the amazing volunteers
who tirelessly attended meetings, put together publicity, came up
with new ideas, and worked the various shows. The list of folks
would take a lifetime to repeat, but please know that each and every
one of you who helped us with this latest struggle are in our hearts.
In case you haven't heard.. the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency
was so impressed with the way our community came together to try
and raise the money, that they decided to waive our outstanding
rent so that we can put that money towards our ongoing fundraising
efforts.
The struggle is not over, as we still have
more mountains to climb before we find our way back to 185 6th St.
At this time, though, please come through Bindlestiff one last time
as we celebrate our final days in the building that we have called
home for so long. Please keep checking in as we have a move coming
up into our temporary space "Bindlestiff Alley" just across
the street on Natoma (We will continue to keep you updated as new
chapters unfold). Salamats. Peace. Isang Mahal.
