Interview with Lawrence Iriarte - director of The Graphic Novel Experience
How young were you when you dreamed of becoming a superhero?
Way before I could even go to school...

Who did you most want to be like when you were your son's age?
I've always wanted to be a major comic artist like one of my favorites - NEAL ADAMS, whose work graced the books when I was little.

Why is Graphic Novel Experience (GNE) an important project?
It's the opportunity to reach out to both new and old audiences and to play tribute to the works, both visually and as writers that have major influenced the culture today. It gives fans the chance to be immersed into these great works, as well as give new audiences a chance to appreciate the work in a new light.

How did it come about?
This is a culmination of major influences of my life: comics, radio-dramas, movies, theater, and cartoons. I've always imagined these sounds and voices and music that went with these stories as I read it. This is just a what I believe a fan experience as he is engaged in the stories that are out there.

What keeps you excited about the future?
The possibilities of exploring newer ways of creating and infusing them with the technology that allows a newer palette to work with.

How many hours of sleep do you get?
ha ha ha ha ha ...what is that?

If you could be five other occupations, what would you be?
1) Comic ARTIST
2) ANIMATOR
3) STOP MOTON ARTIST
4) ACTION FIGURE DESIGNER/ SCULPTOR
5) Conceptual Artist

Name two of your biggest fears.
1) vampire teeth
2) vampire teeth on a baby.

What "goodies" are you raffling off at the GNE Fundraising Event on August 18 and 19?
1) art pieces and influences of the show.

Why is Bindlestiff the place to be?
Creatively, there is a release and support for an artist that is present...that screams..."FREEDOM". A word and language, that we all seek and embrace...I thank Bindlestiff for allowing me the opportunity this vision, this experiment in presentation, and a chance to share an Experience.
